The feature film Tekken was adapted from the famous 3D fighting game series of Tekken Iron Fist Tournament. The franchise started with the original arcade game of Tekken 1 and 2 but its predecessors Tekken 3, 4, 5 and Tekken Tag Tournament were simulated through famous gaming consoles such as Playstation, PC, Nintendo, and Xbox.
The feature film featured a variety of famous characters from the Tekken franchise such as Jin Kazama, Kazuya and Heihachi Mishima, Marshal Law, Bryan Fury, Yoshimitsu, Christie Montero, and many more.
The feature film was set in the near distant future plague by war and nuclear fallout where the world super powers are replaced by multi-national conglomerates. The main protagonist Jin had his mother murdered by the Tekken Corporation’s military and that he entered the King of IronFist Tournament to take revenge. A stereotypical plot but the film makes up for it the fight sequences.
It is a current trend in Hollywood where they make their movies based on popular comics and games as seen from Dragon Ball, The Last Air Bender, and the upcoming film King Of Fighters. However this film was mainly enjoyable due to the action sequences, and the sex appeal of the female characters due to the targeted male audience.
In a nutshell, this feature film was enjoyable to watch for the first time but not worth another viewing. Gaming enthusiast will enjoy watching their favorite gaming characters come to life but due to the lack of depth in the plot, it actually degrades potential of the movie. It really goes to show that when Hollywood attempts to create a movie from a comic book or popular video game, most of the time the movies that come out do not meet expectations.
